August in the Folsom Historic District

August….it’s been such a hot July that, fingers crossed, August has to be better. I love the summer produce, it’s been great. Tomatoes took a while to get here, but they’re finally here. The corn is terrific, and all the stone fruits are abundant and juicy. There was a Peach Festival at the Farmer’s Market…did you catch it? Crazy!! The attendance was great, and there were a lot of peach things to really help the summer feeling sink in. Love it.

Lake Natoma is quite a place for people to cool off. Have you driven over the Rainbow Bridge, or Lake Natoma Crossing, and looked down the river, at the folks out on the water? It’s amazing…and we’re so lucky…it’s right here! Paddleboards are fun, I tried my first paddleboard not too long ago…what a great pastime. Slow, quiet, relaxing and cool. Very, very nice. I enjoyed it immensely, and hope to return soon. Did you know you can rent paddleboards (and kayaks) at Negro Bar? What a great resource. 

Do you miss having a 4th of July parade? Did you know that there is a committee working on bringing back a parade for next year? If you are interested in helping with this hometown effort, contact me, at the Bakery, and I’ll patch you through. It’ll take a lot of thought and effort to make a good parade, so the more hands the better.

By the time you read this Tap Folsom may have already taken place. Did you go? Have a good time? This is a fun event that seems to have really caught on. 

Last month I mentioned the American Legend Concert…a Tribute to the life of Johnny Cash in song. I have purchased my tickets and am excited for this show. This is the same show that sold out the Harris Center last year. This time we’re able to see it in the open air, comfortable in our low-back lawn chairs. Heckle (the new ale house on Leidesdorff) will have their mobile food and (rumor has it) drink service available these two nights. Make sure to get your tickets early…as the amphitheater is not very big and ticket sales will be limited. 

The kids go back to school next week…wow!  Summer is coming to a close, and fall will be here before we know it. The Historic District is the perfect place to grab one last moment of summer. Grab an ice cream at Snooks, or Pizza at Pizzeria Classico, and then walk down to the new waterfront promenade underneath the Lake Natoma Crossing. It’s a great place to relax and watch all those water folks taking in their last days of summer too.
