Were you around the Historic District during the month of December??? Whew-what a time we had….

Ice Skating is in full swing-and the weather has been so cooperative…cold and clear: holiday festive….perfect for visiting family or big group get-togethers.

The skating rink is now centered by our holiday tree…once again we had a terrific and festive tree lighting…complete with Santa, who was his usual good-natured self. On the opposite end, THE GRINCH showed up. And boy, was he grinchy! Scaring children and singing terrible songs, he was so entertaining!

Did you see the Budweiser Clydesdales? It was a last minute announcement by Budweiser that they would come to our Historic District…they stopped and made deliveries to six locations on Sutter St as part of the promotion. How lucky are we? What a special thing to know that our Historic District registers on the radar of such icons. The District was crowded and full of people-the horses, the handlers, and the Dalmatian were all really exciting to see.

I made a pact with myself to make this a mall-free Christmas. I shopped on-line, yes that’s true, but that was for the items on my list and were easy to define. For those imaginative items, those items that I didn’t know I wanted to give, the ones that become spontaneous “oh, I know he/she is going to love that….” I spent my time (and money) in the Historic District. I found so many great things. I wandered up and down the street, had to return to my car once to stow my loot, and returned to make a second pass at shopping, and then meet a girlfriend for a glass of wine as the evening closed. It was such a great way to get the shopping done, and I felt so happy to not be caught in the mall mayhem. The gifts are now given, and I am happy to say there is not one return-success!

Once last moment of recognition for an icon of our very own…..Clouds Pottery has sold it’s last piece….the big red barn will have closed by the time you read this…we’re so sad to see them go. Best wishes to all the folks who have helped make this business such a success-your talent and commitment to the District has been enjoyed by all for so many years! We’ll miss you very much.
